After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iMac is restarting on its own. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Jul 20, 2015 8:23 AM in response to brianshihby Mike Sombrio,If your iMac is having kernel panics a log file should be generated that will likely offer some clue as to what is causing the problem. See here Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic - Apple Support Copy and paste the log in this thread. That it works fine in Safe Mode "could" indicate a GPU issue or more likely some incompatible or poorly written software causing the panics.
