Q: Can I get new events in iPhoto to display in photos after I have migrated?

I am still using iPhoto as a prefer the features..

Is there any way of photos keeping up to date with the events I create?

No.  There is no syncing or interconnection between the iPhoto library and it's converted Photos library. Nothing done in iPhoto is reproduced in the Photos library.

So if you're going to continue to use iPhoto you might consider not using Photos until iPhoto no longer works.  Then you can convert your current, up-to-date  iPhoto library into a Photos library and start from there.
