Q: Windows partition corrupt or unbootable after Yosemite upgrade

My windows bootcamp partition no longer shows up as an option to boot to when hitting "alt/option" while starting.

Reads in disk utility as "disk0s4" and says can't repair disk.  How do I recover or backup files?

When I tried the sudo commands, I entered the only password I recall having on this computer and it didn't work.  Any idea how I can figure that out as well?  My apologies, as I'm out of my element and don't really have any idea what I am doing here.

Alright so I've been trying to do it by internet recovery and the only option for reinstalling is OS Lion, however, when I click on it and enter my apple ID and password it keeps reading "this item is temporarily unavailable" and "try again later"  I've tried this multiple times now over the past day or two and it doesn't change.

I'm sorry this has been so much trouble and I appreciate your help.  I looked up this specific error on the forums and the choice seemed to be either download to another computer or take it to the genius bar for them to do it.  I don't know anyone with a mac nor is there an apple store anywhere close to where I'm at right now so I'll try to take it to an apple store when I get back to NY next week although next week I'll simply need it to work again and my windows files will have to wait at that point.

Is there any other options for me at this point that you can suggest in the meantime?  I seemingly only have the option to boot from the internet, tried time machine and that doesn't have any restore points or won't load, can't create a backup recovery disk and can't re-install the OS for the reason listed above.

I'm starting to become a little jaded with how little luck I'm having with this and don't really know what else to do.

Please try using a wired connection. Wireless connections are not yet good enough for large downloads, especially if you are traveling. If you work with colleagues, ask if anyone has a Mac. There is a mode called Target Disk Mode - Share files between two computers with target disk mode - Apple Support - which can be used to diagnose your Mac.

1.) Tried a wired connection and it didn't make a difference, it still said "try again later."

2.) I tried a number of different options and it looks like the only next step is to either a.) pay genius bar to reinstall my OS, or b.) purchase a new copy of yosemite, (no earlier versions of OS appear to be available any longer and I don't have any in my or my friend's purchase history,) and download it to my recovery external drive and boot from that to reinstall.  If I do reinstall OS, (or a different version than the original,) in this way, will it erase or copy over my bootcamp partition?  Again the priority is to save the files on the bootcamp partition.  I'll go out and buy a new computer before I will risk deleting those files forever.

3.) I need to buy a cable in order to link the two cables.  If I buy such a cable and link them, what would that help me accomplish?  Would I somehow be able to copy over the bootcamp files in some way or is it just another way to try and boot the OS?

Thanks again for your patience and your time.

If #3 is possible, then #1 and #2 are not necessary. It may be possible to fix OSX issues in TDM mode.
