iPhone 5 charger cable turned green & stopped working
I have an iPhone 5, which I purchased in August 2013, and recently the charger has been giving me problems. When it was plugged into the wall, it would stop charging sometimes and my phone would beep as if it had been unplugged. Then if I repositioned the cable, changed the angle, etc. it would start charging again and beep that it had connection. I also had an issue trying to plug it into my MacBook Pro (2012 Retina); sometimes the MacBook would give me the message "USB Devices Disabled. Unplug the device that is using too much power to re-enable USB devices." I would unplug and replug and fiddle with the position of the cable until it worked and could sync in iTunes.
I noticed that the end of the cable, near the connector that attaches to the phone, looks wrinkled and slightly bulging. A portion of the cable itself also started getting a green tinge to it. I tried to figure out what it might have rubbed against that could have transferred the color, but I couldn't figure it out. Is there a possibility that it is caused by something inside the cable?
Today my charger stopped working completely. No amount of repositioning, trying different wall plugs and my MacBook, has worked. The iPhone is not recognizing at all that it is plugged in. Is there any way to fix this, or will I have to get a new charger cable?
