It's just that whenever I plug in my mac, I have to hold the pause button at all times to hear the sound. I'm not sure how to solve this problem

My earphones are working but the sound doesn't come out or i can't control the volume with the buttons on my earphone. Right now i always have to use a clip to hold the button to get the sound coming out of the earphones. But it work perfectly on my iPod without that clip...
