Can I delete my 'resources' folder from iPhotos library?

I am getting so confused when trying to move photos to my external hard drive and also when syncing up a newly downloaded picasa app.

I see in picasa that I have oh a million folders with thumbnails of faces all routed back to my Photo Library. My question is- can I delete any folders within my Photo Library without losing actual pictures??? I don't care about facial recognition software or thumbnails being saved. I JUST want the original photos and to be able to see/edit them on my computer.

Can I delete any/all folders in the photo library except for the 'Masters' folder (and maybe the previews)?

I'm wondering why you say they don't "play well together" as I know several friends who have both? I know picasa doesnt store the actual photos, just scans them in basically so I'd assume it would be fine together.

Mainly my question is about storage space on my HD- if I can delete any of the 'thumbnails' or 'resources' folders since they take up GB of storage for "photos" I don't use/access.
