How do you make only specific contacts go straight to voicemail? I don't want the phone on silence and I don't want to block a caller - just be able to choose specific callers to go directly to voicemail.

The only way to make a specific caller go automatically to voicemail is to block them. If you want to do it manually, double tap the power button while the phone is ringing. That call, and only that call, will go right to voice mail.
The definition of putting a block on a caller is that it sends them directly to voicemail. If that's what you want, I'm not sure why you say you don't want to block the caller.

If you block them, you don't get notified that they called and the voicemail gets put in the deleted folder. If the OP still wants to be noticed of the call, blocking may not be the option they want.
