unknown error (-39)??

I need to update to do this it and restore my Ipad but it wont let me update and instead it will say that an unkown error occured (-39)

Why is this and how can I fix it and restore my Ipad?

I do not remember which operating system my IPad was on though I believe it was one of the newer ones.
