How can I add transitions between clips without creating a storyline?
I'm trying to add transitions between clips but when I do it creates a storyline. Is there a setting where I can turn this off?

Thanks for your response...very helpful.
One thing you can do is let attached clips overlap each other with handles and either add transitions to the overlapping clips or adjust the compositing: opacity slider on the video animation menu of the clip.
Hope this helps!

I imagine that you were addressing the OP of this thread but I wanted to give you a scenario where a connected storyline with transitions may not be desired. I've done quite a few training videos where I edited B-roll to a voice over. So picture my timeline where the voiceover is the main storyline and all the B-roll is connected clips. If the producer/director wanted to change out one of the clips with another and if that clip is of a different duration it will ripple all the transitions and other clips down the line causing my video to be out of sync with the voice over. Therefore in that scenario I find it best to leave each clip as a connected clip with handles and add transitions to the clips individually.
No.
Just curious why creating a secondary storyline is thought not to be desirable . I can't think of any downsides to it.

Use the replace from start or replace from end function so the storyline doesn't ripple.
