Iphone hacked? Null app in settings

Dear all,

letley I have the impression that my iPhone5s is being spied. It's not jailbroken (as far as I know) and I found an app in my settings today that does not appear on my regular app screens. The app in the list is nameless, with a blanc icon. If i open it only thing I see is: "Allow (Null) to access" where I can select "use cellular data"

so I discovered this strange app today, but yesterday my iPhone was responding suddenly verry slow, after a while normal again, today in the standby screen I saw that the location arrow was on. it dissaprared once I gave in my password, and this twice in 10 minutes. Doesn't happen anymore.

Any possibility to find out what this null app is? not like the idea that I might be spied on.

kind regards

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.2

Hi gillescoens,

So my understanding is that you found in your iPhone's settings an app that doesn't appear anywhere else. You don't know what it is and are concerned with your data security, is that right?

It is hard to say where this came from, but it is possible that this is just an app that was incompletely synced. I would suggest that you re-sync your iPhone with iTunes on your computer to see if the issue resolves itself. This article shows how - Sync your iPhone, iPad, and iPod with iTunes using USB.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I had a similar issue just now after upgrading my iPad 3 to iOS9 but was due to a NewsStand App. Fixed it using a combination of the comments in

Re: "Null" app can't be deleted

Retracing my steps:

1. Upgraded to iOS9

2. As 'NewsStand' has been discontinued a new Folder with all my old NewsStand Apps appeared.

3. As I had no more need for these deleted all these apps & folder

4. Then just happened to see the same (null) app under main Settings Page as the OP Joeden1946

5. Then from 'Settings' clicked through 'General --> Storage & iCloud Usage --> Storage: Manage Storage'

6. Scrolled down (as have many ,many apps this took a while) but found the null icon and tried to 'Delete App'.

7. Restarted Settings but (null) app was still there - (maybe should have tried a hard reset to see if it had disappeared)

8. Repeated steps 5 & 6 and found a version number 2.1.73

9. Ran a Google search on 'version 2.1.73 ipad' and had seen halfway done the list 'BBC Good Food Magazine' - one of the apps I deleted in step 3.

10. Redownloaded app, opened up 'BBC Good Food Magazine', ran 'restore purchases' (but had none), iPad froze and automatically rebooted.

11. After reboot went back to 'Settings' and (null) app no longer there. Yippee!!!

12. Repeated step 5 and found the app 'BBC Good Food' and deleted it.

I have this issue on my 6S and I can't fix it.

There is no icon in manage storage, and when I click delete it comes back seconds later. Also the version number is 1.7 so no great clues there, tons of apps have had a version 1.7.

This is super frustrating. I expect more from a company like Apple charging $1500 for a phone. Apple has certainly lost their high levels of polish lately.

I know the problem is solved now, but I had the same problem and solved it in another way that I'd like to share.

I didn't know what app caused this defect, but by going to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage (for local storage) I found the nameless app. By tapping on it, I had the option Delete App which get rid of the problem.
