no internet through Bluetooth hotspot connection

I get online by connecting my Macbook Air to my iPhone 5C's hotspot (I'm running iOS 8). I've always done so with Bluetooth because it's much quicker to connect. With wifi, I have to turn hotspot off and on a few times and do the same to Airport on my Mac before I get a connection. Bluetooth also never drops my connection while I can find myself having to reconnect with wifi several times when my cellular connection is flaky

Recently, I have having connectivity issues with my local cellular network and one of the troubleshooting steps they had me do was to reset network settings. Since then, I can connect my computer to my iPhone via Bluetooth, but I have no internet access through that connection. I have unpaired and repaired my devices and that hasn't helped. I've researched this and can't find a step that I missed. I'm thinking that there's a buried setting that isn't on. Any idea of what it could be?

Howdy travelingrae,

Just to make sure that we're on the same page, it sounds like you're unable to get your Personal Hotspot to connect via Bluetooth as it used to. If this is the case, the article linked below details a number of additional troubleshooting steps that can help restore this functionality to your Mac and iPhone.

Thanks for that link. I tried most of the suggestions, but it's still not working. If I can get my devices to stay connected via Bluetooth (often, they'll connect for a second and then disconnect again), I don't have any internet on my computer through that connection. I'm going to give up for now and wait till my new computer with Yosemite arrives to try again, just in case I'm having an issue that's fixed in an update.
