iPod won't turn on

I locked my iPod and now it won't turn on. I tried holding down the lock button for a long time, charging it for more than 5 hrs, but nothing seems to help. My iPod is just a little more than a year old so the warranty expired. I have seen questions similar to this and the solution was to hold down the home button and the lock button. But, my home button has been broken for about 3 months now. I have been using AssistiveTouch. I also tried using cleaning the home button with Q-tips and compressed air, but the home button still doesn't work. If you know anything that will help, please let me know. Thanks

By means 'locked', you have a passcode? If so, the easiest way for this is to get your home button fixed first. Then put you phone into DFU mode and restore your iPod. Please be aware that doing so will remove all contents on your iPod.(photos, apps, etc) Also, you can try TinyUmbrella.

I just had this happen (same age ipod and home button also dead). What ended up working for me was leaving it unplugged so the battery died completely (and therefore shut itself off) and then plugging it in and turning it back on. I am guessing it somehow froze with a black screen. Might be worth a try.
