Renting movies on an iPad

Could someone tell me if it is possible to rent movies on the iPad and how long the rental persiod is?

Yes, it's completely possible. The rental period depends on your country though. 30 days from the date of rental, as long as you don't star watching it. 24 or 48 Houston depending on your country once you start watching it.
About renting movies from the iTunes Store - Apple Support
Not all movies may be available for renting at all times though.
