Trusteer Rapport and System Preferences Panel

Whenever I try to open the Trusteer Rapport preferences panel, it crashes and I get the usual screen to report the event to Apple.

I have uninstalled Rapport Trusteer (an IBM security product used by many banks and which came from The Royal Bank of Scotland's website so presumably the latest version), re-downloaded it again and yet it still crashes. The application itself appears to be working normally, however, but the Preference panel doesn't.

I've repaired permissions and done the other "normal" housekeeping.

Does anyone else use this software? If so, how does your Preference Panel work?

Neither the IBM nor RBS site appear to have any way of contacting Technical Support so I'm pretty well stuck at this point!

If you uninstalled, you presumably found this webpage:

https://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

, which gives you a choice of 'online chat', 'submit a ticket' or 'request a call-back' as ways of contacting them directly.

FWIW, Trusteer version 3.6.1412.27 is working fine with Safari on OS X 10.10.4 for me.

Is it possible that you have installed some malware or 'antivirus protection' that is trying to interfere with Trusteer? Run EtreCheck:

http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck

and post the results here if you would like us to see if there is anything obvious.

cdhw: No, I didn't see that page. I had the uninstaller on the iMac (since originally downloading TR several moons since). If the etre doesn't help then I'll contact IBM direct.

I have used Trusteer (in blind faith that it is actually doing what it says) for a long time without any trouble. However, a "clean out" of safari made me think it had somehow become detached from Safari so i decided to download and install again. I had forgotten that the former "green square" indicating protection had been replaced by green lettering in the URL box so there was probably no need to reinstall anyway.

However, after downloading again I went to the System preference to get it to conform that there were no updates available and that's when the problem arose.

OK, here's the etre report. Alas my technical knowledge doesn't allow me to fully understand it so if anything stands out llike a sore thumb then advice would be much appreciated.

Incidentally I do have the Mac version of avg-antivirus installed. Until recently I received and worked on many Windoze files which came via email, so I favoured anti-virus software so that I didn't pass anything on to my clients. I used Sophos for a while but a security minded friend advised that avg was now the best - and it's free!

OK, here goes ...

Hello iBozz,

Most people would say you need no AV at all, and once you have cleaned up your machine (NOT with clean my Mac) then you can check out to see if things are running better.

First. Click the links to help remove any adware.

Second, You notice trusteer is in red as failed. Why I said to remove it.

Third, Get rid of Clean my Mac and anything to do with the name Zeobit or Mackeeper. (The latter is not showing yet ... but.)

Fourth. FahCore can be removed but I am not acquainted with it. It has a Windows connection and an uninstaller, I believe.

Do these things then then run the machine and let us know how it performs.

TechTool Pro's background processes are also major resource hogs. Both RAM and disk space it chews up creating GB of backup files on the drive. Which is a useless way to back things up. If the drive dies, the backups go with it.

Open the System Preferences and click on the TechTool icon. Click the main disable button to turn the "features" off all at once.
