Hello ! Inside preferences,I select a sound and indeed I hear it,so it appears to work. But in fact new mail arrives in silence. What's happening please ? When new mail is sent however,the "whoosh" is heard.

Thanks ! In fact the computer had not had any shutdown for months (speaks a lot on behalf of the machine ?). Have just unplugged for 10 seconds,and this sound is back. Real mysteries to me,these things.
