Q: Apple Pay Refunds In Store UK

So... I've been told in m&s that this isn't possible.

Looking at Barclaycard merchant instructions it is possible.

Is it just some shops it does work in and some it doesn't? M&S said I need to use chip and pin with the physical card..... But the whole idea of apple pay is that I don't need to carry that!

Anyone know any more about this? I'm wondering is it just that along with unlimited quantity transactions this is something that will be fixed in the future.

    See http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/help/payments.

It seems that refunds should be supported, but are not instantaneous.

Sorry I should have said I have read that already.

I was wondering does anyone have any experience of refunds with Apple pay in store in the UK?

I'm based in the US but have been able to get refunds from vendors. I had bought (something) at Home Depot (DIY store) using Apply Pay before they supported it. Realized I didn't need it so I went back and they were able to process the transaction without asking for my card ("Would you like the refund to your American Express?"). Shows up a few days later.

Maybe try again and just don't specifically say you purchased with Apple Pay.

Hi thanks for the reply but the payment procedures are very different in the UK to the US - that's why I said UK only in the OP.

In the UK it is normal that you would insert your chip card and sometimes type in your PIN to receive a refund when you purchase and return to store. This is less normal in the US.

Also we had contactless payment ahead of the US (in general) and it is setup much differently. In the UK generally the card machines won't trigger contactless for refunds or transactions over £20 as far as I can tell. It looks like this will happen in the future.

In the US the contactless facility seems to always trigger - and chip cards are still less common than in the UK and chips aren't the norm for refunds like in the UK.
