Q: Some apps quit working and I need to restore a previous backup, but HOW?

I have an iPhone 4 which is limited to running iOS 7.1.2.  Not realizing this, I updated all of my apps without understanding that several apps would not work with 7.1.2.  If I understand correctly, I need to go to an earlier version of my backups and restore one from prior to the problem.  I'm on a Windows computer running windows 7.

I was told by a friend that I needed to go into ITunes, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices and choose from the list of backups - only problem is that it only shows the most recent back up in that window.  I located earlier backups in my Windows directories, but I do not know how to tell ITunes where to find it or if I can use them when they are located in Windows.  I see other buttons like "Delete Backup" and "Reset Sync History" but that doesn't seem like what I need to do.

Can someone advise me how I go about restoring a previous backup stored in a windows folder, and get it into my iTunes? Or if that isn't even the correct question??

Thanks, sorry!  I've had this phone a while and have never had to do a backup!

    Hello there, Pfyze.

It sounds like you're trying to download and install the latest compatible versions of some apps that have quit working on your iPhone 4. The following Knowledge Base article offers up the steps on how to do that:

Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

To download an earlier version of an app, follow these steps:

    1. Open the App Store or Mac App Store.
    2. Go to the Purchased screen on your iOS device or the Purchases tab on your Mac.
    3. Find the app and choose Download. You'll see a message telling you if a compatible version is available. Tap Confirm to install this version.

If a compatible version isn't available, you can try contacting the app developer. Look for contact information on the app's product page in the App Store or Mac App Store.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

    Kind Regards.
