hi, i just bought an iphone 4s of a friend but he left his icloud connected and doesnt know his password, does anyone know how i can wipe it off the phone without the password?

You cannot - that is called the Activation Lock, an anti-theft protection system.
Your friend needs to get the password by going to http://iforgot.apple.com or Apple ID Security at http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204169 or login to his iCloud account, go to Find My Phone and remove the iPhone from the devices list.

Excuse me but I think both answers are wrong. Try going to "Settings", scroll down to "General", then scroll down to the very bottom and hit "Reset". They will ask you is you REALLY want to erase all settings and go back to "square 1" and you say "YES". That will zero out everything and you can start from scratch: First name.... Last name etc ... and that's where I think you want to be. Good Luck. Peter

Absolutely incorrect. You cannot erase an iOS device while the Activation Lock is set. THAT is the purpose of the lock, to prevent a thief from clearing and using a stolen device.

The original poster wasn't sufficiently clear in stating where a problem is being encountered. If he/she is getting it very early on it is Activation Lock, but I have also seen plenty of topics where were a person simply didn't know how to re-associate an accessible phone with a different AppleID in account settings (they were still getting somebody else's e-mail and iTunes Store things) and then the menu "general" etc. is what needs to be done.

Since Ralph answered back in July and the thread was marked as solved, It is safe to assume that Ralph was correct, and that the poster claiming that "both answers" were wrong (despite the fact that only one answer had been given), is just blowing it out their hind end.
