Can I connect a non Apple monoitor to a MacBook Pro?
Looking to get a monitor for my MacBook Pro. Can I connect any monitor to it?

I guess that's my question -- how do I know if a particular monitor is compatible. I would love to get the Thunderbolt display but can't justify $1000 on a monitor after buying the Macbook Pro.
You can connect a monitor which has a compatible display connector; some monitors require an adapter. If the computer has a Thunderbolt port, a Mini DisplayPort cable can be plugged into it without an adapter.

Most monitors will be compatible, but until you hook them up you cannot be sure any monitor will work. I have found monitors with LG panels usually work, ViewSonic monitors have worked for me in the past, and, Nixeus.
If it's supported by the computer and you have a proper cable and/or adapter.
Yes. Any modern monitor with HDMI or Display Port ports will work. Don't get an old monitor with only a VGA input port, if those still exist.
Generally, if the monitor and computer's display ports can be hooked up, it will. If the monitor has a Thunderbolt connection, it won't work in a Mini DisplayPort; the reverse will work.
