Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Product Key

I recently had my Macbook Pro repaired and it had to be wiped clean. I'm having trouble re-accessing my copy of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, which I purchased online back in 2012. I only have the 20-digit Product ID and they're asking for the 25-digit Product Key, so I can't activate MS Office.

I've contacted Microsoft themselves but they haven't been successful at helping me because there's no Microsoft account attached to my purchase 😟. Does anyone know how I can get the product key using my product ID? Or anything else that can be done to help me out? 😕

Yes. I have the Product ID and need the Product Key. I purchased MS Office 2011 for Mac from my college store on a student discount back in 2012, and only downloaded it. I called the college but they're unfortunately no help in recovering the product key, especially since I graduated 2 years ago. Does anyone know of any programs for Macs that can find the product key? Or anything that might be helpful?

Sorry, no. Even with an activated copy of Office 2011 on your Mac, I know of no utility which can extract the product key.

If the final part of the purchase was a confirmation from Microsoft, you should have gotten an email titled "Microsoft Office for Mac – Order Confirmation". This should contain your product key.

If the key came directly from the school and since they can't help, it may be on the purchase receipt from the school. Though that would be a long shot.

Otherwise, you're stuck. It's up to the user not to lose this information. If I were to lose or throw away my Office 2011 box, MS couldn't be of any help to me, either. There's no way for them to know which of millions of products was mine.

I presume you're using the product key that's on a sticker, which is on the sleeve the installation DVD is in?

The thing is I purchased MS Office online, so I don't have a physical copy of a CD or anything with a sticker. All I have it the product ID which uses the XXXXX-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX format.

Hmm. I presume then that this is the product key you received with your purchase confirmation. It's late here. I'll check tomorrow to see how long the key is in my boxed copy.

Somehow, you appear to have an incomplete product key. Both boxed copies we have for Office 2011 are 25 characters in five groups of five letters/numbers.

Kurt -- What he has is the 20 digit Product ID (not the Product Key).
