sudo apt-get command not found.

Hi,

I am unable to install any programs from the terminal. When I try to run the sudo apt-get install command, I get an error saying command not found. I went through the discussion forum and i got the fink package for yosemite. However, I am not certain if it has unpacked itself. I do have the file fink-0.38.6.tar.gz. I am thinking that the package has unpacked itself. However, now when i run the sudo apt-get install again on the terminal I have the same error. Can anyone help me out getting this fixed.

The apt-get command is specific to some varieties of Linux e.g. Ubuntu it is not a command included in OS X which is based on FreeBSD.

There are similar offerings to apt-get for OS X but all of them have to be installed before you can then use them to install packages.

You can also of course do it by hand by installing GIT on a Mac along with the Mac Command Line tools and then GIT cloning the source for a package and compiling it just like it is sometimes necessary with Linux.
