How do I set up junk email filters on my iPad and iPhone 5s to prevent spam entering my inbox?

My main email account in through MS Outlook. Spam filters have been set up on my PC but don't seem to apply to my ipad / iPhone. Currently receiving c. 600 spam / polish emails each day. My email address is long established and I'm reluctant to close it down.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

You don't. That is not a function of iOS. You setup filters on the mail server / webmail.

Yes, already tried that but to no avail. Any other thoughts / suggestions?

There's an Exclusive option in Outlook junk mail filter to send all incoming mail into the spam folder except messages from your contacts, safe senders and Outlook.com service announcement.
