Installing New Ram

Hello,


I am looking to upgrade the memory in my late 2014 iMac 27-inch retina, it currently has 2x4GB. Would it be possible to add 1x8GB to that, using up 3 of the 4 available slots and boosting the memory up to 16GB?

You can do that but there may be a small performance advantage to installing in pairs that, side-to-side, match in size. Here is how my RAM is configured using the commonly recommended arrangment in my iMac 27:
