Someone reset my password and it wasn't me

I received an email this morning stating that someone reset my password so I immediately changed it but I wan to know how this has happened. And who has the ability to hack into someone's Apple ID. Is it possible that they now have all my information regarding my cell number, credit card number, address?

You're sure that they are genuine emails from Apple, after receiving the latest email did you try logging in with what you'd changed the password to yesterday ? And you've changed your email account password and security questions ?

It was a genuine email from Apple. not a phishing attempt ? Did you try logging in with your password, and did that work ?

To be able to reset an account's password they would need to know either the existing password, or know the answers to the account's security questions and date of birth on the account, or have access to the email account that the reset email is sent to (which will be the rescue email address if one is on the account ; if there isn't one then the primary email address). If the password was changed then they would have been able to log in and see the details on your account (full credit card details shouldn't be shown). You should also change your email account password, and security questions (Password & Security section on http://appleid.apple.com).

Yes, it is directly from Apple. And when I reset my password I recieve the same exact email. It is very strange because maybe 3 weeks ago I received a text message saying someone tried hacking into my Apple ID and for me to respond with the password for security- obviously I didn't do that because it was sketchy. So I really hope no one hacks into my personal information.

Also, I'm pretty sure I haven't updated my phone recently and I just noticed an app that I had never downloaded. It says At&t protection plan and when you open it it makes you enter your number. Of course I have not dome this because I am suspicious of it. When I went on the app store all the reviews are just from yesterday and today. do you happen to know if this app is real?
