If you actually purchased them they are independent of Apple Music and shouldn't be affected if you discontinue it. If you simply downloaded them as part of your subscription they will of course cease to be available.

If you had in fact purchased them and they disappeared you should be able to re-download them without cost.

Basically, and I don't mean to sound harsh, you are asking in an Apple Forum on how to cheat the system Apple set up to ensure that songs downloaded on subscription (and therefore cheaper than purchasing them) can only be played as long as you subscribe. As far as I'm aware you won't technically be able to do this (iTunes certainly won't burn them and they won't play outside it) but you should be aware that in some geographical areas bypassing DRM - Digital Rights Management - which is in fact what you are proposing, is actually illegal.

Songs which you have actually purchased from the iTunes Store will not be affected.

Songs which you have downloaded from Apple Music, whether these are items you didn't have before, or songs you have purchased on one device and then 'matched' on another, will cease to play when your subscription lapses. All purchases can be re-downloaded from the Store, and this will not be affected by the subscription lapsing, but if you download them from Apple Music they are the same as any other item and will cease to play.

Songs you have 'matched' will continue to play if, and for as long as, you are paying for 'iTunes Match' as opposed to 'Apple Music'.

Songs you have for example ripped from CDs, and which are not in the Store, and which you have uploaded, will be unaffected by your subscription lapsing.

Apple Music is a rental service. Downloading for offline listening is provided to cover situations when you have no internet connections, but you do not own such songs - they are still rented and when the subscription expires, so do they.

So if you save a music to the iCloud Music Library, are you wondering if it will be deleted after you discontinue the subscription?

After you cancel the subscription, I believe that all functions of Apple Music are removed from your device, including saved songs that were not directly purchased from the iTunes Store. However, I think a backup of your library remains in the cloud should you choose to renew your subscription at a later point in time. However, I'm not one hundred percent sure on those points. I'll try to find a support article to back me up. 🙂

Thanks for that bit of information about previously purchased music from iTunes not being removed from iCloud after subscription to Apple Music has been cancelled. As I just read online here that says the opposite...

What happens if I decide not to subscribe after the three month trial?

Any streaming music you've added to your library from the Apple Music catalog will no longer be playable; you'll stop having access to Connect content; you'll be skip-limited when listening to Apple Music radio stations; and unless you have iTunes Match enabled, you won't be able to stream your previously purchased and uploaded music to your devices, and any songs from your Mac's library that you've downloaded to other devices will be removed. (Your Mac's original iTunes library remains as-is.)

Songs you have purchased from the Store can always be downloaded to another device.

Songs you have ripped from CDs and which are also available in the Store can be downloaded to your other devices only as long as you have iTunes Match or Apple Music enabled. If you used iTunes Match they will continue to be available after you stop subscribing. If you have only Apple Music they won't. Your originals will be untouched.

Songs you have ripped from CDs and which are not in the Store can only be downloaded to another device as long as one or the other subscription is running, but once downloaded will continue to be available after the subscription lapses.

I have Match

I tried Apple Music --hated it --back to Spotify

I view music by date added so all the Apple Music I listened to to during my subscription is now grayed out and if I click on it I am prompted to re-join Apple Music

. It would be nice to at least hide the inactive AM songs.

I wonder if they would reappear if I deleted them and then rejoined AM ?
