Mail not sending

Hi all,

I am using Mail on a Mac Pro 2012 with OS 10.8.5. I can receive incoming mail, but sending is extremely slow to none. There is an icon consisting of a circle with a triangle inside and an exclamation mark in the triangle next to the inbox and trash icons. I have run diagnostics and Mail connects to the internet and the Providers SMPT Server . Any suggestion on why I may not be able to send outgoing mail? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Best,

Thanks Eric,

I finally got to a Tech rep with Cox Internet, my provider. They are having issues so that is probably the cause. Mail Connection Doctor connects but loses connections. I'll wait awhile and see if Cox fixes the issue and will report back. in the mean time I will visit your suggested trouble shooting sites.

Again Thanks,

Monty
