swapped hardrive, kernal panic

I spilled water all over my computer. The battery was shot, so I took it out and powered it solely with the AC adapter and now its booting up fine. The computer couldn't find the drive however, so I swapped the water damaged hard drive on my mac with a functioning hard drive from a slightly older model. Now it is booting up fine still but I am getting a kernel panic and am wondering how I can fix this and get my laptop working again. I tried internet recovery but that is not working.

Perhaps I should have also mentioned that installing the HDD in the 2011 MBP would also allow you to determine the OSX as well but that does require more work.

would it be easier to just buy another hard drive off the internet with a newer OS if its only going to run me like 20 bucks more than the adapter

Assuming that the HDD from the 2011 MBP is dead, you will need a replacement HDD. If you get one, then you can omit the enclosure purchase and try Target Disk mode instead:

However that does require an appropriate connecting cable.

Ciao.
