Q: Heart rate up for 45 minutes but show 17 minute workout

My apple watch shows 45 minutes of a heart rate over 100 during my Insanity workout but it only registered it as a 17 minute workout.  What is up with that?

I bought my watch basically for the fitness applications. It was my choice over buying another such as fitbit, and I like the other techie stuff that comes with it but if it does not register my workouts, I do not see it being the best bet for me.

I have only had it a few days, The first day it seemed to register my run about the same as my Nike app.

    Hello srkmrd,

When you state the Apple Watch only registered your 45 minute workout as only 17 minutes, I wonder if that is in the Activity app (exercise ring)?

If so, you may want to use the Workout app to record your workouts.

From Use the Activity app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Make sure you earn Exercise credit during walks by allowing the arm with your Apple Watch to swing naturally. For example, while walking your pet, let the arm with your watch swing freely while the other holds the leash.

If you need both hands while walking, for example to push a stroller, you can still earn Exercise credit by using the Workout app. The Activity app relies on arm motion and an accelerometer to track movement, whereas the Workout app uses a heart rate sensor and GPS.

If your Insanity workout has periods of little arm movement, that may be it.

    Take care

I did use the workout app set to other last night and the night before and it did register better than when I just counted on the activity ring to record my activity.  I will continue to use the workout app for now.

    Thanks for the reply!

    Hi srkmrd,

You are welcome.  Glad the Workout app is working for you.  I'm still learning about my Apple Watch too. It's fun.
