How to get more channels from Apple TV Gen 2

Hi

I have an Apple TV Gen 2 in my house with barley any useful channels but at work I have an Apple TV Gen 3 and way more channels. Do I need Apple TV Gen 3 to get access to more channels?

Thanks

Do you have channels hidden on ATV2? I have both 2 and 3 and they get the same channels, just not at the same HDTV quality (1080 on 3 vs 720 on 2). Do you have automatic updates enabled?

To check for updates on ATV2, Settings > General > System Updates > Automatically Update, then for good measure Update Now (top item)

To check for hidden channels, Settings > Main Menu > Toggle Hide to Show for the channels you want to see or vice versa.

I did this from memory so titles might be a bit off, but you'll get the point.

I did not not suggest that the new gen Apple TV had more content. Unless you hid channels there shouldn't be a difference, with the indication that the other has been modified.

Note: the latest firmware for 2nd gen is 6.2.1. It won't have an impact on channels though as those are fed via server. If it's running a prior firmware and the error persists do a restore and it will automatically load the latest

Show / Hide channels for the opening ATV screen is under Setting > Main Menu. If you don't see that it is another reason you need to do a restore. You will have to re enter all your login information after the restore as it will reset it to a factory fresh state. Setting > General > Reset > Restore and read and accept the message to restore.
