I just got a new MacBook pro to replace an aging iMac. My iPod touch is synchronized to my iMac; I'm trying to "import" the playlists to my new macbook pro...not sure how to go about doing this. Thanks in advance.

You need to import to your new computer your old iTunes' library, here is how: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204318
Don't forget to authorise your new computer with your old iTunes ID: Authorize your computer in iTunes - Apple Support
I forgot to mention that the computer I am exporting the iTunes library from is OS version 10.6.8.
