Cannot transfer files from Galaxy S3 to Macbook Pro

Hello,

I've installed android file transfer onto my Android (v. 4.3) Samsung Galaxy S3 (Model R530MBBXAR), which didn't work, so I installed Kies (v. 3.1.1.15042_6) onto my Macbook Pro (Yosemite). Kies does not recognize my S3 when I plug it in to the MBP via the manufacturer-supplied USB cable. Per other chats, I enabled USB debugging; afterwards Kies seems to find my device but gets locked into permanently "connecting" until I exited Kies. Chat posts say the solution to that problem is to install Samsung USB drivers for Mac - but there aren't any. I went to the Samsung download site for USB drivers and they are all PC/Windows. I know iPhone and Android don't want to play in the same sand box but seriously, is there no way to transfer files from my S3 to my MBP? I've dealt with it so far by emailing data to myself but this time I have a large (50MB) voice recording and cannot do it via WiFi (fails when I try to save it to Google drive or dropbox, and when I try to email it to myself it's not attached. Any suggestions, other than buying an iPhone or a PC 🙂 ?

Thank you so much for a solution to this frustrating issue. alison
