Final Cut Pro 7 to 7.03 in one go?

Sorry if I am not in the right community here? I did not find a FCP 7 community, does it still exist?

I have the license to FCP pro version 6.06 and still want to use the program. I wonder is it possible to upgrade from 6.06 to 7.03 in one go or do I have to find all the sequential upgrade files? I am not sure where to find those files.

I found the 7.03 updater here: support.apple.com/kb/DL949

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 15 " Late 08 MacBookPro5,1, 8GB RAM

YYou want the Final Cut Studio forum.

THere is is no free upgrade from FCP6 to 7. The Final Cut Studio upgrade that included FCP7 came on DVDs. You can probably fit and upgrade copy on Amazon. You'll need the FCP6 serial number to complete the installation.

You probably should be thinking of making the jump to FCP X as FCP 7 is now over 5 years out of date and the prices of used copies on eBay and Amazon can be exorbitant, even more than the $299 of the latest FCP X

As I recall, FCP 7 wan't that much different from FCP 6. (Actually, just did a search and foundthis; Pro Res 4444 was important.)

The price has actually come down quite a bit recently; I found a current listing for the upgrade online has the upgrade for $425. Whether it's worth it, I don't know. My guess is that the regulars on the FCS forum would say it's not.

FCP X is so different in design, workflow, and even terminology that it's hard to predict how long time FCP users will like it – except that there will be a significant adjustment at the beginning. There is a 30 day trial if you'd like to find out first hand, but it requires Yosemite. You can always create a second system drive with Yosemite installed to do your testing.
