PAGES Typing slow, document openingh

Often Pages, especially when I start it, types very slowly. This goes for opening and closing document. After 5 minutes, it will react normally, but if I stop for a peripd or restart the app, it begins running slowly again. Before I deleted the app and reinstalled it and that worked, however this no longer works. Suggestions?
