The locations are actually... delete these files.

Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON?

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.

Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

The DNS entries you gave + the Google DNSs - 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 MAY have ironed out the SpeedTest results - BUT - the results were never really consistent until the end of a series of test runs - test are HTML 5 based - no Flash in 10.4fox v.31.8.0 - Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0 TenFourFox/G3

bottom line is that the results average are ABOUT the expected norms for my speed plan with TimeWarnerCable - some well below the minimum thy expect, some well above the Top Speed for the subscription level

I do not know what to believe with these scattershot results. I will go by "feel" for a bit and retest again at intervals.

there was one more .plist in the folder you cited (5 in all) - " com.apple.PowerManagement.plist " - it reminded me that I am still plagued with PMU / battery issue that I cannot resolve - folks have been helpful, but I would appreciate your fresh eyes (if you haven't already)

I deleted the aforementioned file after making a copy first to inspect. it is XML "Energy Saver" value settings - and has not yet been recreated, even after opening the Energy Saver PrefPane (settings had reverted to default) and closing it again - I have a vintage utility - XBattery.app - that was helpful early on, but now indicated that the battery is not charging. I will let it run to see if it records something interesting just in case.

I doubt the Flash based tests myself - I get wildly different results, even with different products by the same company!

TimeWarnerCable is married to their tester's results - I get comparable results with SpeakEasy and TWC's standalone in Safari (Flash) VERY LOW

MegaPath SpeedtestPlus (requires running Safari to get Flash to work) and testmy.net (both Safari and 10.4fox) get comparable results MUCH Higher and generally acceptable

with 512MB of RAM - I keep it open always 😎 as 10.4fox seems greedy and Apple is no help - other sites do NOT gobble up RAM anything like here = client side computing, ya know.

I get comparable anecdotal speeds looking at it - wish it had a History and graph like the newer versions

I concocted an objective test by dumping a .mov on DropBox and then manually downloading from the webpage location == similar results to the testmy.net & MegaPath tests.

Too many variables in all these that can't be known or controlled - the source server is main one.

I am satisfied that I get somewhere between 60% & 120% of what I signed up for - they only promise consistent 80% so I guess that's what I'm getting - NOW.

lemme know if you have the time or inclination to look at my battery thread - here comes a helpie!!

2010thanx anyway. If anyone you know is capable, I am at wit's end. My best guesses are the Power Management Unit or the AC Adapter computer side of the chain - the female 'socket' was busted and I had it replaced in 2010 - or both - or neither, leaving the funky-a s s e d battery.
