iTunes has unexpectedly stopped?

I recently downloaded iTunes for the first time on this computer and every time I try and open iTunes, before it even opens, I get an error message saying it stopped working. I have looked at the info online and the support for iTunes. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired and updated iTunes, nothing changed.

This is the report:

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.

I've tried re-installing multiple times and following the guides for completely removing itunes. No dice. Any ideas?

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem than megalizalin and PirateToast, with the same values you posted, I trying to install all versions, uninstall with the way of turingtest2 gave to us, nothing worked, til I decide to try the version for the old video card, hum!

Some will say, I don't have an old video card, and that's what I said for mine, but it work fine now.

Just for your information, my video card is a: ASUS R9 280 Series with 3072 Mo of memory dedicated and 7885 Mo shared.

I don't think it a old video card mainly because I bought last January but if itunes work with the version for the old video card so, that's ok!

It would not be a bad idea for you to try! And may be...

This type of error can usually be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of from the programs and features control panel. CoreAudioToolbox.dll is part of Apple Application Support and can normally be found in

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support.

Have you tried any of the other suggestions, like confirming if the issue is restricted to one user account or not? Have you tried rolling back to the most recent build that worked for you?

I'd love it if you could solve the issue too. But I'd settle for a dependable workaround that gives you access to your library while you explore possible fixes.

I take it you tried completely uninstalling all Apple components, deleting the named folders, rebooting, and then installing this version: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards)?

Don't worry about the label. All 64-bit version of iTunes up until 12.1 released in January were 64-bit installers for primarily 32-bit code. 12.1 introduced an (almost) all 64-bit version, but there is no guarantee that it works perfectly on every 64-bit system. The "for older video cards" version is the same packaging of the 32-bit code for 64-bit machines. As well as the obvious uses for systems that cannot run video natively (and will also need QuickTime installed even though Apple fail to mention it) it is also useful for other compatibility issues.
