You can't. 4.2.1 is the latest version available for your device. In order to use iOS 6 or higher, you need a newer iPod.

The 3G can only go as high as 5.1.1

The 4G to 6.1.6

The 5G at least to iOS 9

The 6G can likely go higher than iOS 9
