cannot access router settings

My MBP is connected to the Router but cannot access it's homepage and configuration settings.

The Router's address is https://speedport.ip but I notice it defaults to https://speedport.ip/html/login/index.html whenever I enter it.

My iPad can connect using the https://speedport.ip address.

Could anybody please explain how to fix this.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.2)

A quick update, it does not work wwhen I manage to enter the shorter address.

The message below is returned:

'Safari can't open the page "https://speedport.ip" because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "speed port.ip""

The MBP is, however, connected to that router; it just cannot access the settings page.
