Adding word count as a keyboard shortcut

I want to add word count as a keyboard shortcut. I have set option-shift-w as the keystroke and typed "Show Word Count" for the menu item. If I click on the menu, it shows the new keystroke as a shortcut, but when I press the combination (all at one time), nothing happens. I've created a couple of other keyboard shortcuts and they work OK. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I suspect that if the keyboard short cut sequence is reserved by OS X elsewhere (and I have no idea what that might be), then it becomes a NOOP as you have discovered. I even wrote a short GUI AppleScript that tells Pages to click on that menu item, and though the script runs quicky and without errors, Pages does not respond to it either. But then again, it is Pages v5 and that speaks volumes already.
