iCalendar widget issues

I have linked gmail to the iCalendar but my events don't show up in "today" widget unless I have specifically added those events from my phone. Any event that I have added from my computer or events from shared calendars which are synced do not show up in the widget which makes it pretty useless. It appears that if I add stuff to my iCalendar it will sync over to my google calendar but not vice versa. How do I make my events show up from my google calendar. I don't have a mac and I do a lot of scheduling from my computer on google calendar but if it is not going to sync over to my phone, the iCalendar is pretty useless.
