Q: Can I move movies to my external drive?

So I have run out of space in my HD and when I look at my Mac storage it shows that movies are taking up about 50% of my hard drive.  Is it as simple as dragging and dropping them into my external drive or will that mess up things somehow?  Would they all just be stored in the "Movies" folder or hiding elsewhere too?

iPhoto '11, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

    If your machine still shows the space as being used, then restart the computer and check again. Double check your Trash too, to see it is empty.

    I had already checked my trash and it was empty and now that I have restarted it is telling me that EVERYTHING is classified as "other"!!
