You need to obtain and install the drivers for the USB video adopter and then follow the manufacturer's instructions.
A regular monitor is needed for initial setup
USB to monitor adapters are usually of a standard called 'DisplayLink'. The adapter may or may not have come with the Mac drivers for the adapter included but if not or if you are looking for updated drivers then try the following link.
John,
I downloaded and installed the drivers but I still cannot a signal on the monitor. Any suggestions.

See if the device is being recognized by the Mac. Click "About This Mac" in
the Apple menu, then click the System Report button. Then in the left column
click on USB under the Hardware list. See if it is showing up on any of the
listed busses. If it is, then what you may have is a driver incompatibility issue.
Yes, the device is being recognized by the Mac. How do I solve the driver Incompatibility issue?
Hal
Contact the device/USB Video Adopter support site.
Just what is listed as the device in System Report?
The System Report gives the Product ID as 0x2000, the Vendor ID as 0x 1d5c (Fresco Logic Inc.), and the Version as 2.00.
Hal
This only lists drivers for Win 7, 8 and 8.1.

You contacted frescologic?
There driver support page is here:

They list two drivers but do not list compatibility.
Thanks,
But those two drivers are only for Windows. I guess I was sold a pig in a poke!
Hal
That is what I conclude. They do not supply drivers for OSX.
I bought also one on Deal Extreme. Gives exact the identical values as Hal Frederick (The System Report gives the Product ID as 0x2000, the Vendor ID as 0x 1d5c (Fresco Logic Inc.), and the Version as 2.00.)
Lets find out if i can return this product but I guess not
