Logic Pro 9.1.1 not compatible with OS 10.9.5?

I installed from discs that are part of Logic Studio, my Logic Pro 9.1.1 onto my Macbook Pro, and when I click on the LP icon, which has a circle with a diagonal line running through it, it says that this version of LP is not compatible. There is a thread on here from a while ago with the same question, wherein one of the respondents said to run a software update on LP 9.1.1 to run it up to 9.1.5 and it will be compatible. However, how do you run a software update on it, if it won't let you open the application?
