How do I make “true” and “false” normal text in a table?

I want to type the words “true” and “false” in a table, and I want them shown the same way just as every other word displayed in the table, which is in lowercase letters, yet the “smart” Pages automatically changes them to uppercase because they are recognized as Boolean values. Changing the “Data Format” option from “Automatic” to “Text” doesn't work, because I don't know why, but every time I change it from “Automatic” to “Text”, Pages automatically changes it back to “Automatic”.

You can enter lowercase true and false by selecting the cells to receive these words beforehand, changing the Data Format to Text, and while the cells are still selected, set the capitalization to None — from the Format menu ▸ Font ▸ Capitalization menu structure. This retains the Text Data Format for these selected cells.

Pages has two table formula functions: TRUE() and FALSE() that return capitalized boolean values of their name. With Data Format set to Automatic, or not Text, and not forcing lowercase text, Pages will believe that you have provided the accepted alternate shortcut to these boolean functions and promote true and false as you have discovered.
