Q: Editing help

I'm doing a film production about child abuse and my goal is to have shots of bruises fading in one an actors face (ideally getting worse and then slowly healing and fading away) is there a way to do this with fcp?

If your talent were completely still,  you could do this with masks and opacity changes. Any movement, you would need to do a tedious amount of key framing.

There is a  plug-in here that offers both tracking and masking. There is a trial version,

I'd do this with a skilled makeup artist.

The quality of your story and photography will determine the impact of the sequence far more than the actual special effects. That is, the sequence is not about how cool the effects are. This is true in all docos; calling attention to effects makes the message of your film secondary.
