What can I do to fix?  Have deleted and reinstalled email accounts and all the shut down/restart options.

    Hey there c-morgan,

It sounds like you are able to launch the Mail app, but it is blank and closes on its own even though you've restarted the phone and removed the mail account from the phone. I would next remove the mail account one more time, and quit both the Mail and Settings apps:

Force an app to close in iOS

    1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
    2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
    3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

Then restart the phone and test it out again.

If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

Ended up at a Genius Bar session...Had to do full restore, but at least it works now.  Thanks.

Thanks for the update! I was going to put that process in my last reply but was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Glad you were able to get a resolution!
