Q: Can I use a Windows 8.1 computer to fully set up a Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station for all frequencies?

I recently upgraded my wireless router to an AC level router.  Unfortunately, it's an Asus, and apparently there are issues with Asus routers and some Macintoshes.  My daughters both have Macs, and one of them has major issues connecting to the router.  Both daughters are in college, so their computers are not at home eight months out of the year.

I use a Windows 8.1 (tablet) computer as my main computer, so I need to run the set up software on a Windows 8.1 (soon to be Windows 10) computer.  I've heard that the Windows software (a) does not set up both frequencies, and (b) may only be compatible with Windows 7.

Unfortunately, Apple has not updated the AirPort Utility for Windows beyond that provided for Windows 7 ... and that version was designed for AirPort base station models up to the 802.11n versions. One option would be to try to borrow a friend's or neighbor's Mac to administer your AirPort Extreme base station. However, if you are referring to administering the Asus router, then you won't need to use the AirPort Utility at all. Instead, the Asus router should have a web-based administrator interface.
