Unable to empty trash.

My trash has 3000+ items to erase. Although the "empty trash securely" window opens, it quickly disappears.

No items have been erased. None are "locked"

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), Have run "diagnostics". No change.

Why are you trying to Empty Trash Securely? With that many items to remove it may take weeks before it's done.

Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Trash problems.

You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash

Try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the prompt:

sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash

Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen. Press RETURN again.

(Should anyone tell you this is dangerous or unnecessary, please ignore the comment.)
