Mid 2012 MacBook Pro Will Not Go to Sleep

Recently discovered that when I closed the lid on my mid 2012 MBP, It would continue to run without actually going to sleep. Sometimes it would be warm or hot to the touch as if it was still hard at work.

These are the troubleshooting steps I have taken all to no avail.

1. Manually put it to sleep using the sleep command from the Apple Menu. Screen goes dark, but I can still hear the hard drive spinning and heads thrashing. The sleep light comes on, but stays lit... never going to the slow pulsing when it would normally sleep. Even hours after I issued the command to sleep.

2. Rebooting into safe mode and then either using the sleep command or closing the lid.

3. Rebooting the computer and putting it to sleep from the user selection screen (ie, not logging in).

4. Reapply the OS X 10.10.4 Combined update.

5. Booting into the recovery partition to run Disk Utility and checking both Volume and partition health through the repair functions (no problems found).

6. Repairing disk permissions.

I am very conciencous of what I install on my computer. I am, no security slouch. Nothing has changed on my machine since this started other than applying software updates to all the software on it as needed. All browsers equipped with AdblockPlus. AV installed. That being said, I still ran checks using Sophos AV and AdwareMedic to see if anything was living in there that should not be.

I am at a loss, so here I am posting to the community. Thanks in advance.
