Apple Superdrive won't work on windows 8

So I'm working on a friend's computer and they just got an Asus something running windows 8. They have an Apple superdrive that they've been using on the families Mac mini and macbook air with no issues. However when it's plugged into this Asus, the disk drive shows up and can eject discs, but when you go to put the disc back in it won't let you push it all the way in. It gives significant resistance at the very end when it should pull it in. When the drive is connected back to an Apple device it works 100%. Also if it is connected to a mac and a disc is inserted, then connected to the windows pc, it will not read the inserted disc. Any thoughts would be appreicated.
