Why does my Samsung s3 photos no longer download on the Mac since the latest iOS update?

I do not understand why an iOS update would effect an Mac. Mac's run OSX, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches run iOS.

OSX 10.10.3 introduced the Photos app which apple wants you to use instead of the older iPhoto app. The iPhotos Dock icon was replaced with the Phots Dock icon but you can still access iPhote via the Applications folder.

Also if you did not update iPhoto after going to Yosemite yo have to update that before iPhone will work in Yosemite

Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

With the camera connected, does it show under Devices in the Image Capture app?
